W h o A m I ?
My name is Alexis. I have lived in Alberta my entire life prior to University. I was born in Medicine Hat and moved to Sylvan Lake shortly after. I grew up being surrounded by water. Everything is so quiet under the surface. Surfing has been a huge passion of mine ever since my first trip to Hawaii. There aren’t enough words to describe how surfing makes me feel. My passion for being outside and immersed in nature is what lead me to Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I found the Adventure Program which is dedicated to teaching individuals soft and hard wilderness guiding skills. After I obtained my Adventure Guide Diploma, I came into the third year of the Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM). I decided to go into the general stream of things because I wanted to be able to do a large variety of classes. I didn’t want to be tied down to one route of things. My dream? Launch my own surf adventure company with the knowledge and experiences TRU has given me.

Welcome to my ePortfolio. My site highlights projects I have worked on throughout my time at TRU. These projects shine a light on what I have learned over my time in the BTM. It also gives sight into what I like about the tourism industry. My resume is also uploaded here on my site, although you will need my password to access it. I encourage you to connect and contact me with questions and inquiries. I look forward to hearing from you!

The photo you see above is from my 21-day Surf Expedition down South to California in 2019. This was a graduation requirement for the Adventure Program. I was just getting out of the water when this photo was taken. It was a dark gloomy day but the waves were remarkable. There was a large colony of Sea Lions that were barking at all of us in the water. To say the least, they were not happy with us taking their waves! This photo is something I will always hold close to my heart. It reminds me that even when things look bad, there is good that comes of it, you just have to push yourself to go. This exped pushed me physically and mentally in and out of the water. It allowed me to work in Tofino on Vancouver Island at the original surf shop: Live to Surf. Here, I instructed lessons. Teaching people to ride their first wave and watching their smiles light up the beach was incredible. No one ever forgets their first wave. I know I won’t!
